This is perhaps my favorite Spacemen 3 song, 'Losing Touch With My Mind': partially I think for the extrinsic reason that it's the first song on their first album.

And also because I see them categorized as 'space rock' and for a long time that made no sense to me at all, because of the order in which I got into them, beginning with Playing With Fire which isn't really space rock at all. This album doesn't get the praise the next two do, so I didn't get it until I started to be more of a fan and wanted everything. But it's easily as good as the second album and in many ways better than the third. And it has space rock sounds on it, that wooshy woosh stuff is very space rock. I doubt you'll get many agreeing with you that they peaked with Sound of Confusion, but for what it's worth I do love that album.

To me, it is what metal should sound like-- bludgeoning, unrelenting, the kind of thing that used to make my dad think I was a mental case when I played it. For some reason, most fans think the Northampton demos (Taking Drugs to Make Music.) are better than the album itself. Not sure that I agree. The truth is, I don't have a favorite Spacemen 3 record.
